What do you call a Librarian?

Our district has mandated that we remarket ourselves.  I understand the need.  Some librarians are perceived as unfriendly to teachers, students, the community.  Some librarians have museums and are very upset when the museum is noisy or items within the museum are touched.

Me?  I really don't care what you call me as long as you see my value and ask me to collaborate with you.  I do have a preference:  school librarian.  After all, that is the designation the AASL has given.  However, librarian is not a choice.  I will wait and see what the choices are and the results of our vote.

For me, my "library" is called the CUBE for C3, the Campus Connection Center.  I like that name.  I have a logo, drawn by one of our Graphic Design students.  I have decided to purchase lab coats to have embroidered by our Tic Toc Embroidery Shop, with the logo, my name, and Information Specialist.  I AM an information scientist, having earned a Master's degree in Library and Information Sciences.  I experiment with information on a daily basis, usually with the hypothesis being "Is this a valid source for the students and/or teachers?"

I have the privilege of providing advisory lessons for my students on a weekly basis.  Because of this I have been able to share many Web 2.0 tools with them.  For the 2012-2013 school year I will be writing lessons in a flipped format.  Students will watch videos, view PowerPoint presentations, work through ActivInspire flipcharts, view Prezis, and other formats for the "library part" of the lesson.  They will then email  me questions and I will visit the classroom to answer the questions.  No longer will teachers have to "give up time for that citations stuff."  I am really looking forward to this.

Rebranding?  That's okay.  I don't really care what you call me; just let me continue to be the advocate for information literacy my campuses need.
